Rivervale Barn Wedding – Sally & Dan
A stunning Christmas and Star Wars themed wedding at the beautiful Rivervale Barn near Yateley
Thinking back to when I first met Dan, I believe it was when he was dressed as an Imperial Stormtrooper at a Free Comic Book Charity day. We met several times after, with Dan dressed again as various character from the Star Wars movies that he loves so much and Dan also helped me to organise a portrait day involving 20 different Star Wars characters (clicky to blog here). To clarify, Dan is one of the founding members of the Joker Squad, an amazing group of Star Wars fans who dress in movie authentic costumes whilst raising money for charity. Getting to know him I got to understand what an awesome nice guy he is, so to be asked to shoot his wedding and to finally meet his bride to be, the lovely Sally, well I can’t really express how delighted it made me feel.
Sally and Dan made a beautiful choice of venue with the Rivervale Barn, it is such a beautiful setting for their wedding. As the wedding was so close to Christmas, the day was planned around a Christmas theme, with subtle Star Wars details included during the day. Being December with short days and not always the best weather, we’d planned not to walk round the lake and gardens, however to use the interior of the bridal room in the cottage which provided an awesome backdrop for their portraits as the newlyweds, with portable studio lighting and a few tricks of the trade to supplement the stunning decor and ambient lighting in the room. From the beginning of the day all the way through to the evening it was just smiles and laughs all day. a great couple with such awesome family and friends.
What most of the guests didn’t know about was ‘Project Amber’. After their cake cut, Sally and Dan were collected for their first dance by Darth Vader and Boba Fett accompanied by several imperial stormtroopers and then marched on to the dance floor with the imperial march playing. I’d known about this since our first meeting and had worked with the venue and the DJ on the day to ensure that it was all planned out as best as possible, however nothing really prepared me for how epic this moment would really be. Sally’s mum made the most of her time with Darth Vader having a couple of dances with the Sith Lord, notably though the bounty hunter Fett and the imperial stormtroopers were on hand ensuring no funny business went on.
Finishing the night with some sparklers, a presentation by the Joker Squad to the happy couple and some random stormtrooper helmets being worn both on and off the dance floor, it was such an awesome day all round. My last wedding of 2016 and such an amazing end to my year.
I’d like to offer a massive congratulations to Sally and Dan for allowing me to be their wedding photographer at The Rivervale Barn, Yateley. Also a massive shout out to Chris for helping out as my second photographer, we’d both like to thank Sally and Dan for looking after us and feeding us throughout the day, Rivervale Barn provided some really tasty dishes!!
‘Oh my God!!!!! The photos are simply incredible. They are just perfect and exactly what we wanted. You and Chris are so talented and so many people spoke so highly of you on the day. For once in our lives, we are speechless. Thank you so so so much once again. You’ve made our day.’ – Dan & Sally
