MPA Regional Awards 2016 News!

Last year almost to the day I was rewarded with near 6 months of hard work to be granted my Licentiate Qualification with the Master Photographers Association (MPA) and on that very same evening at the MPA Regional competition night I picked up a Gold in the Aspiring Member Category and a Silver in the Black and White Open Category.  Later in the year I entered in to the MPA National competition and despite some super quality competition received 8 merits and an Award of Excellence.  Not a bad result for my first time.

Just to explain about how the MPA competitions works, it’s not about how many votes you can get, or who you can influence, it’s closed room judging without the judges knowing who has presented the images.  You gain your bronze, silver, or gold purely on the quality of the images presented.

This year I presented a number of images in to the membership categories for the MPA Regional Competition 2016 and was surprised to not just pick up a Bronze award in the Wedding Day and Celebration category, but also a Gold! I also then was super surprised to win a Gold in the Wedding Detail category and also a Gold from the Ten from One wedding Category.  So amazed to receive these awards, this past year has seen a massive jump in my creativity with my membership of the MPA being a massive contributing factor, as my journey with them through my qualification and the previous competitions has promoted my goal of continual development, to make myself a better image maker, to be able to bring out the best in the images for final presentation.  Even with such a great and unexpected result this year, it is still a continued upward path, with my sights set on taking the next step, then the next step and so on, all so I can produce better and better quality images for my couples that book me for their wedding day.

My view however is that I am presented with opportunities at weddings that you, the couple, have created. You plan to great detail everything from your choice of venue, the dresses, the suits, the table decor, the brides hair and make up, flowers, the entertainment, so much detail, all to make it look so awesome on your day and enabling me to capture moments that provide me the images to enter these competitions.  So to you, the couples that had the confidence in me to capture your most perfect of days, I’d like to say a massive thank you, really, thank you so much.
